Hwee Hwee Tan was born in Singapore in 1974. Before studying English at the University of East Anglia, she spent three years in the Netherlands. Tan also holds a Masters Degree from the University of Oxford and has studied creative writing at New York University after winning a New York Times Fellowship in 1997. Her second novel, Mammon Inc (2001), was also adapted for the stage during the 2002 Singapore Arts Festival.
