How does this golden-surfaced monument relate to Zimbabwean culture and politics? Given the international pre-eminence of Zimbabean stone sculpture, which is often abstract, why do you suppose a European-style monument was chosen?

Does the fact that the sculptor chose to commemorate those who died in the war for liberation in the style mandated by Stalinist communism make any particular political statement? [GPL]
