Thian Hock Keng Temple (Temple of Heavenly Happiness). 1839-42. Restored 1998-2000. Telok Ayer Street, Chinatown, Singapore. Photograph by George P. Landow, September 2001.

The Malay words "Telok Ayer," which mean "Water Bay," date from the time that the temple and street paralleled the shore.
