The next art association of significance to be formed was the Singapore Art Society in 1949. That the Society of Chinese Artists and the Singapore Art Society exist today suggests that they are structural manifestations of deep- rooted aesthetic values.
Among the familiar pioneer artists of Singapore, only Chen Chong Swee was a charter member of the Society of Chinese Artists although another founding member, Lu Heng, had a work featured in The First Ink, a rare exhibition on the works of early Singapore artists held in 1991.
